I could care less about calling American Idol.. I'm about as concerned with it as I am with calling Obama's camp and complaining about him calling Matt Lauer by the wrong name on the Today Show the other day.

Exactly. "That" version of "Proud Mary" IS Tina Turner's "Proud Mary".

But , hey, keep on overloading the American Idol phone lines over such a goofy thing, prove that the fans are all nuts, and maybe you can ensure that NONE of John Fogerty's songs are heard on American Idol ever again, or that there's ever a "John Fogerty" theme night on AI.

As a previous poster suggested, if the person sings it in the style of the Ike and Tina version, then they're perfectly entitled to say "Tina Turner's 'Proud Mary'". Do you really expect these people to add "But the song was written by John Fogerty, and originally performed by Creedence Clearwater Revival"??? If the person were to sing it in the original CCR style, then I'm sure they'd say "CCR's 'Proud Mary'", in which case...

To whomever saw American Idol last night on Fox TV, a huge mistake was made when one of the idol singers referred to the song she was going to do as Tina Turner's song, Proud Mary. Not one of the judges gave any acknowledgment nor recognition that the song was a John Fogerty song. Everyone went along with this "mistaken" statement from the idol contestant that the song was Tina Turner's.

Let's face it.....they are IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not a ONE...

We made T-shirts in 2000 to be sure everybody could read on the back that PM and RAOTW are John Fogerty songs.
Lots of Tina Turner fans got the message ....
We only made 150, perhaps we've got to print a thousand more ??

Or new ones with a big message on the back :

and so is "Rockin' all over the world"

This happened in Australia a couple of years ago , and when i posted my opinion on this forum that i felt it was wrong for the compare to refer to PM as a Tina Turner song most members thought i was nit picking . The rot has set in hasnt it . When i email the particular program producer she basicly said that they went with the TT song because it was better . Keep Well All .

I will give the idol singer the benefit of the doubt and assume she meant to say "Tina Turner's version of Proud Mary" because she thought her interpretation of the song would be closer to Tina's interpretation than to John's original version. However, she did say "Tina Turner's song" so the show should set the record straight.

Its Proud Mary here being discussed as a Tina Turner song, well in the UK im fed up of Rockin all over world being a Status Quo song. Its regualary introduced as their song without any mention of JCF but I suppose can you blame the media/public when it has been rammed down their throats over the years which is the same as Proud Mary.
Its only the educated who know otherwise so my view is let them get on with it and let us who know JCF continue to enjoy

I agree, Petra, nothing wrong with it whatsoever.But these so called 'talent' shows REALLY annoy me. John hit them right between the eyes with the lyrics to 'It Ain't Right' so I guess he's not a fan of American Idol either.

If anyone has seen the great Irish film 'The Commitments' from the early 90's, theres a great scene when they are auditioning for the band. A forerunner of what was to come later.
